Lyrics Analysis

The song I chose for the lyric analysis is Frozen Creek, by Circa Survive.  The song is off their third album Blue Sky Nose which came out in 2010. Circa Survive was formed in 2004 and they are based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The band consists of Anthony Green, Colin Frangicetto, Brandon Ekstrom, Nick Beard, and Steve Clifford. Anthony Green was the former lead singer of a California Based band named Saosin. I found out about this band about two and a half years ago. I was looking for another band and they kept coming up, so I listened to one of their songs. Ever since then I have been listening to them I chose this song because I love this band and have been listening to them and this is one of my favorite songs by them. I love the way that Anthony Green writes his music because he usually gets them off movies or places he has been. He creates his own meaning and can make a person think about a song beyond its name. Anthony Green is also a solo artist and works with other bands such as a Good Old War, The Sound of Animals Fighting. When writing he takes an approach that many artist don’t do and he writes his own music making sure they have a real meaning. It does not matter what kind of mood I am in I will always make sure to put in anything by Anthony Green or Circa Survive.
The songs meaning is about a Frozen Creek where he would like to take a person he loves. It is a place where no one is allowed, but for some reason he wants to go there. It’s a place that is hidden and when he goes there he doesn't feel right. It’s about a relationship the house could represent their relationship and it is built upon and worked on as in a relationship. It is based off the movie Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind. The song leads to a deeper meaning because a person might think of it as a Frozen Creek, but Anthony Green goes beyond in describing the place the place which could represent him. When he states I made a promise to you long ago, that I'd do anything to keep this home. Meaning that he would do anything he could for the person he cares about because he made a promise.  The ending of the song is also the ending of their relationship “I would love to take you there”. That is the place that they always went to and it reminds him of her.
Frozen Creek starts off with a mellow and what seems to sound like a bass guitar. As the song picks up on top the frozen creek more instruments come into the song. From a song that goes from sounding like it would be an acoustic song changes. The mood stays the same throughout the song the only thing that changes in it is the instruments such as the drums, and more bass included in it. The instruments were used because they make the song have a deep meaning without making it sound like a sad acoustic song. Frozen Creek ends the same way that it began with him singing with just the bass guitar.
Just like any relationship when people start dating someone there is something that will always remind them of that person. In this case it is the Frozen Creek it is a place that he liked to go with the person that he was with. Even when he comes to reality that the person is no longer around because their relationship ended he can close his eyes and imagine that they were there together. The Frozen Creek is the house that they would go to and a place that no one was allowed to go in. In the creek there sits a house and its place that is pretty much abandoned, but it was a place that they loved to go to.

Lyrics
Upon a pebble driveway
there sits a house
and its the loneliest place
I haven't spent much time there,
I wasn't allowed
It just didn't feel right

'Cause it's all built upon a burial ground,
it just doesn't feel right
it just doesn't feel right

On top the frozen creek
I would love to take you there
I swear it flows through me
on top the frozen creek

If I open both my eyes,
I still see an empty space, so empty
but, if I keep them closed
then there's still a chance that something is out there

'Cause it's all built upon a burial ground,
it just doesn't feel right
it just doesn't feel right

On top the frozen creek
I would love to take you there
I swear it flows through me
On top the frozen creek

I made a promise to you long ago
I'd do the best I can
I'd try and keep it
I made a promise to you long ago
that I'd do anything to keep this home

On top the frozen creek
I would love to take you there
I swear it flows through me
On top the frozen creek

I would love to take you there

There are a lot of people that I’ve come across in my life, but most of them weren’t critical thinkers. Some of them would make decisions without even thinking, or not even listening to what anyone had to say. I’ve also seen people listen to what someone said and do the complete opposite then living with the regret of their decision. I can say that because I have been that person. I did not know a lot of people who thought critically only my mom, but there were certain things I did not feel comfortable talking to my mom about. That changed about five years ago when I met my best friend Falicia. She is a person who is open to a lot of things and she stands her ground. Falicia listens to both sides of a problem or situation before making a decision. I know that I can go to her with any problem and she will listen to what I have to say and then give me her honest opinion. I do not feel judged because she makes me feel comfortable, so I am able to tell her whatever is on my mind. Whereas I have had friends tell me “Oh my goodness, I can’t believe you did that or “Why did you do that what were you thinking” making me feel uncomfortable and not wanting to tell them what I did and why. Whenever I go to Falicia, she will tell me “What happened?” and you better tell me everything”. Before offering her advice she will tell me to say everything that I feel what is bothering me and why. Then after listening to what I have to say she will tell me what she thinks. Falicia usually gives me her honest opinion, which I like about her because she thinks it out because she wants to make a right decision by giving the best advice possible, based on what is said or done. Falicia will offer her advice and tell me the reason why she thinks I should do this rather than that. The one thing that I lack at times is jumping to a conclusion, once my mind is made up that is mostly going to be the decision that I am going to make. Falicia is the kind of person that will weigh out the pros and cons of a situation before jumping to anything, it will take her some time before she can come to a conclusion, but I know that it will be a good one. I am grateful that I have met someone like her because she is the kind of friend that a lot of people need to have. I am not saying that only because she is my friend, but the way that she thinks and makes decisions is a quality that a lot of people have, but do not use. It takes a lot to be a critical thinker because it requires patience and to be opened minded.
